I'm not even going to ask. At least it wins accuracy points.
If you're gonna do it, do it in style. I'm reminded of the Jean/Nadia cosplay from AX...1996? 97? Where "Jean" proposed, onstage, to "Nadia" - and MEANT IT. "Nadia" was completely unawares until he pulled out the real ring instead of the fake one, and if I recall they won Best Romantic Skit that year.
Counter reset due to apparent technical issues, ah well. It's more fun this way, and I'll mark 6000 hits even to this site as of this posting. It'd be around 6050-6070 assuming ALL numbers hold true, but 6000's a nice round number. Alas, alas, we start anew. And, as an aside, TheCounter doesn't like 0s in its analyses - they read as 0 (-2147483648%) all the way down.
I'll say this much, it's one way to get bandwith usage noted and spot the ones who send lots and lots of e-mail. But it does get inordinately silly - I dare any company reading this to not only include the disclaimer and an about-yourself, but why not product advertisements as well?
Fun with The Lexicon. If the discovery of the bogon gave proof to the cluon, would said cluon actually raise the mental state of the moron particle by a noticeable amount?
Gen-chan, I got your card! *dances* sankyuu! ^_^
Now these would be cool to have.
Dini, you do architectural drafting? ^_^ *laughs* it WAS funny. Kinda like watching the immortal "Fist Of The North Star" music video done to Louie Armstrong singing What A Wonderful World. HAH! I post a lot more nothing than he does!
Greg, very cool. Damn you for stealing my idea and then going back in time to implement it. I was playing BATTLEZONE on the comp at home yesterday and had this crazy desire to do something like what you did with 8-bit-retro. All on a green-screen no less. Yours turned out most wicked spiffy. I like your blog, I just never remember to add it. *does so now* DHTML effects neat, but what exactly could you use them for?
Off shopping for new TV like object. Maybe a DVD player too. Wai!
Ragabash, I have had a fun Idea for a future layout. Check your e-mail.
SOMEONE at the FBI fucked up BIG. That big batch of papers that went missing? 3000+ pages on interviews, notes, transcripts, on all kinds of things, all first-hand evidence at the bomb site, before everything was removed in the search. And it looks like he's going to fight for a new trial on this evidence, we'll see where it goes. Tis a shame he can't just die in prison from whatever...

There's got to be a why did the old woman cross the road joke in here somewhere...though I'd be more afraid of people running the crosswalk and ignoring the pedestrians.
How do you test bear-proof garbage dumpsters? Hire a professional.
Iranian school headmistress flambés hamster given as a pet to a schoolkid. Richard Gere could not be reached for comment.
Good. Maghfoor Mansoor shot in NY when Marshals & police went in to arrest him. He apparently went screwy and drew down on them, no word if he got the chance to shoot. Hope not. Fuckin pedophile.
They're homies!
Anti-spam bill not likely to succeed in its current form. Okay, a $500 fine PER E-MAIL is going to keep a lot of people from sending e-mails - but it's not going to stop anything. How do you know who sent it? Committee members and industry witnesses said they supported a competing bill that would penalize spammers only if they used a bogus return address. REALLY. What if there is no traceable IP and a masked return-address? Or if it was dumped into a remailer? The remailer itself didn't generate the e-mail, that'd be like suing the Post Office for sending you advertisements. Or what if the company falsifies its tracks and disguises the e-mail to look as if it was sent from another place? $500 per e-mail sent adds up REALLY damned fast.
Russian cyberattack ongoing since March 1998 and still continuing - this would explain why the government has a bee in its bonnet about online security. Everything from research labs and universities up to the Pentagon has been hit, and they keep finding more and more backdoors in all of this. This whole setup could be part of the huge credit card number heist a few months back. Not a pretty picture, when you look at the final numbers in the story.
REAL Genius. And not a little bit of dementia, I'd wager.
For all you college kids out there...something to consider. Have fun and don't get caught.

I have damaged another poor soul! Ah well. Have fun at familylikeobject thing as well, if possible. ^_~ Yeah, McVeigh's a pop tart, one way or another. Just gotta be patient a little longer. My only fear is that some lunatic nutball group out there's going to "remember" his execution date next year. Nataku confetti. THERE ya go.

Elwen, go finish your skin. :p
One of our new boys in Cellblock D, Sgt. Stedenko, passes along a tale of how whacko the Hawaii SWAT team can be. They had an incident where a man had flipped his lid, and was holding hostages and shooting at anyone or anything that moved. The negotiators had set up a little ways away on one side of the building, while the SWAT team snuck in and deployed next door (everyone had already evacuated by this time). The negotiators got the man to release his two hostages, and then he started becoming very unstable. He would alternate back and forth between being suicdal and depressed, but would back off...then become very irate and start shooting again. The negotiators couldn't get him to calm down for a while afterwards, and never figured out why. It turned out that the SWAT team next door had found some golf-balls, and every time the guy started to o threaten to kill himself, then give up...they'd bounce a golf ball off his window, yell "Pussy! You can't even kill yourself!", enraging the guy, and then they'd all hit the deck as bullets went flying, laughing and grinning at each other. The negotiators, though, couldn't hear the golf balls and catcalls, and never did figure out why he was so unstable. The gunman eventually surrendered peacefully, but the SWAT unit definitely had their giggles for the day. What can you say about people who work in high-stress environments?

Dini, your studio classes are WEIRD. Inspector Gadget, in French, has to be extraordinarily bizarre. And speaking of bizarre, what posessed you to do that Elly/blood-dripping skin and put a whole bunch of :)DK songs? Cool 3d effect on the desktop.
*kicks counter*
I have heard this song too much, I can sing along with it in Japanese - without the music. If I pull off this filk, YOU WILL ALL PH33R. And I will most likely be cracking my skull open and buttering toast with my own brain.

Peeling Paint
or
Ode to My Wall
By: Van
11 May 2001
---------------
Oh, decaying wall of white
With peeling paint and arid shade
Please entertain me for just tonight
And ne'er again shall I be afraid.
You, who reeks upon the wall
Painted once many moons ago
Are crumbling now and soon will fall
Now you reach your final low.
You housed many a person
And stood to see some go and die
Now you will at last be undone
But I am brave and will not cry.
You, mighty wall with paint a-peeling
Have helped my mind and held up the ceiling.
I GOT MY GUN CABINET!!! This thing's COOL! All locking, big glass display cabinets, and it's even got a light inside! *grinning* waaaaaaiiiii and it was delivered today ^_^ Now to go get a really superdark stain & sealant and take care of it.
OOH! I have a stalker now. ^_^ I like the Hell's Belles thing, I was thinking of doing it as a nose-art decal for a WWII fighter/bomber kit.
Bird-san...*adds you to AIM* Want REAL fun with glue? A friend of mine told me this story, he said he knew people who worked at the place this was done. A company employee was suspected of embezzling funds (to the tune of $13,000) from a company, but they didn't have hard enough evidence to go to the cops. They did fire him (for other reasons of course), and the day he came in to collect his last check, they delayed him with paperwork and such, while a team outside found his brand new (hmm, where'd the money come for this?) truck and sealed his tires to the asphalt with this stuff called century epoxy. Stuff takes about 30min to cure but it's as solid as concrete.
The truck's not going anywhere without a) blowing the transmission, b) blowing the block, or c) ripping an 8" patch off all 4 tires. The guy who owned the truck had to go out and rent a JACKHAMMER to break up the asphalt around the tires and THEN - this is the truly sweet part - take a HAND CHISEL and chip the asphalt around the whole epoxy area, and hand-dig out the dirt under the parking lot. Now he hsa to call a flatbed tow-truck because all 4 tires still have these big chunks of asphalt effectively WELDED to them. And while trying to winch it up the back of the truck, you can imagine the asphalt getting ground in and around the wheel-wells...
To top it all off, they made the guy pay for the parking-lot repairs - and made him get the most expensive asphalt they had, just to cover those 4 patches. He never went back.
Yay ^_^ glad you're still reading. *chuckles* That's okay, we're a patient people here. ^_^ I KNOW you didn't break it, I was teasing. ^_~ Hmm. Green dress=pretty. Green sandals=pretty. Green foot=not pretty. *lol* Not that I'm saying never wear sandals or dresses, mind you. ^_~ I found out something I had forgotten about the McVeigh Trial - if, by some ungodly travesty of justice (or just Johnny Cochrane) he gets a mistrial...I'd point out he's only been tried & convicted of killing the 8 federal agents. OK never tried him on 160 OTHER counts of murder, for all the civilians in there - and there's no statute of limitations on murder. He's a dead fuck, just gonna take a little longer is all. *patpat* unless we get lucky and he gets Dahmered, but that's not likely (if he's this far The Row, he's segregated and not allowed contact).

In tonight's session of Cubicle Ball (like volleyball, with a 3" ball of rubberbands and low cubicle walls), Captain Cajun and the Erzoffinator were head to head in the beginning, then the Erzoffinator pulled ahead to a 3-2 lead...Captain Cajun ties up with a bad bobble from the Erzoffinator, and spikes his last serve for the winning point. The losing player was then rewarded with an hour of music, provided by WHMR - Hold Music Radio.

Throwing gasoline on the fires of discussion, Arkansas Supreme Court rules a fetus is a person after a wrongful-death lawsuit against a hospital for the negligent deaths of a woman and her 12-week fetus. This WILL go before the Federal Supreme Court, and sooner or later we'll have a hard ruling as to just what qualifies as a fetus - after all, a one-month preemie baby is physically just as old as a 8-month fetus, yet it's legal to kill the fetus (by many means, which I won't go into) and not the air-breather. Now Arkansas has muddled the entire thing, by making the accidental/negligent death of a fetus illegal and punishable, but still allowing unborn babies to be aborted and killed without qualms. It's getting to be a too-confused issue, and we need a solid straight ruling on the entire affair.
The bastard gets a present on MY birthday, dammit, there's now a 1-month stay of execution for Tim McVeigh due to the document revelation. But we do have to follow the procedures of law, and a f*ckup like this needs to be examined. Natch, it won't change anything...but I'll lay 3-1 odds McVeigh lives to see the June 11 date, with a small but fair chance of someone offing him in prison, or some chucklehead with a scoped rifle deciding that an orange jumpsuit's easy to pick out among a bunch of blue uniforms.
Hmm, India likes our missile shield idea and endorses the whole idea. Of course, they have a nuclear enemy right next door, a mere 5-6 minutes flight-time away. And it's a very serious threat now, with the burgeoning China-Russia-India axis - will they share this technology with their new allies?
China & Russia are really tying the knot, with Russia providing (technically) advanced armaments and the oil China needs, and China dumping a not insignificant amount of money into Russia's coffers - which seriously reduces Russian dependence on the west. In addition to the famous Sovremenny destroyer sale, the Russians were also offering a deal for a pair of Typhoon nuclear missile submarines. Another article goes into more detail and also takes a look at historical parallels from 1910, and the conditions that began the Great War and its even greater aftermath. This was, I point out, written at the end of 1999 - BEFORE a KGB spook took the helm of the world's largest country, with a known desire to bring the old glory back. And apparently, the clincher for all this was Bill Clinton's escape from the Monica Lewinsky affair, when he circumvented the UN and led NATO to a great, bloodless victory in Kosovo.
Is it not ASTOUNDING what man will do for his ego.

It was the frenchfries!! Nyahahahhahaha. Perhaps next weekend, Ragabash? Depending on funds. ^_^ And, as for the Cooking With Ganja thing, Ragabash and I were at the Cheesecake Factory here in Las Vegas (if any of you show up, we're going) and were enjoying the french fries...then, from some sort of strange drug that had to have been in the french fries, we started doing some seriously weird parody concepts. This was the infamous genesis of the Wizard of Nerv, and the nigh immortal "We welcome you to the Pokemon guild...the pokemon guild...the pokemon guild" XD

Oh shit. FBI withheld evidence in McVeigh trial and did NOT make it known to the defense. SUPPOSEDLY, the "evidence" has no major significance - it's just the primary notes by investigators at the scene - detailing WHAT WAS WHERE before any of it was moved. Best Case - absolutely nothing happens, McVeigh demands the death penalty and steps offstage May 16. WORST case? Fucker walks on a mistrial. 6 days to go...

And yes, I survived the interview. I think I did good. Wish me luck, minna.
House votes to withold payments to the U.N. in apparent retaliation to the ousting from the Human Rights Council. As previously mentioned the UNHRC's smaller members (and, I might add, PERMANENT VIOLATORS thereof) banded together with China and kicked the US off of the council. We will be making our 2002 payment of 580 million, but the final payment (244 million) will be withheld. I wonder how much further out of the UN we can wangle - I'd like to see us spending money and supporting ONLY on ourselves and our friends/allies, and not sending troops to hellholes like the Balkans - easing a lot of strain on the military, both in morale and materiel.
Bush takes on gun crimes with a new idea - punish criminals for what they do. Bill Clinton proudly announced that his new Brady Bill kept half a million "criminals" from buying firearms - and only prosecuted SEVEN of them. Considering that making an honest mistake on a 4473 (the yellow gun-purchasing form) is technically a federal offense, which does wonders to inflate Bill's numbers. Here's an example of what Bush wants - Richmond, VA, started Project Safe in 1997. Since then, gun-related crimes have dropped 65%, and other violent crimes 35%. This DOES match a crime drop in the surrounding area as well - perhaps because of fear that the Project Exile act may apply to violators elsewhere? Again, I point to Kennesaw, GA.
Ne, Sacchan, Ragabash and I were discussing something - did you know you can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon out here? And that cane swords DO count as a weapon? Come on, you're a smart girl, you put it together. ^_~v

A cure for cancer? A new drug makes a record run through the FDA seems to do it. Fighting chronic myelogenous leukemia and gastrointestinal tumors, it seems to work during the "blast phase" when NOTHING else does. Out of a study of 53 CML patients, 51 stayed in remission while on the drug. This could be a jumping point for a lot of other things, depending on what this does and how it works.

Hmm, MS is just gonna love this - IT workers union is pretty popular, over 45% of polled IT crews are for going union. Quote of the Day: Another issue that's advantageous to both companies and workers is standards for application development. Product and project cycles have gone from two-to-three years to two-to-three months, says Lessard. "There are no processes. There's no R&D. Everything is about the bottom line. It's a sweatshop. You're not making good software. You're doing spaghetti code. Unless some type of professional organization is formed, we're going to see a lot more [interest in unions] going forward," he says. Well, YES. Card Captor Spike. Think about it. Spike's a professional at catching things. He gets a message one day from an official high up in the Gate Corporation, a little girl by the name of Daidouji Sakura VIII. Someone stole an ancient family heirloom, and it needs to be retrieved. Sakura must come along to identify it to be correct, since there are many many forgeries and copies. On the way...she and Ed...bond. Well. Ed is soon spotted gallavanting about in a white winged bearlike costume, and Ein is constantly seen sporting a different bow. Young Miss Daidouji also...has much to say about Jet's jacket and Spike's suit. After all, she DID inherit her great great great great grandmother's fashion sense and talent. And lo, the fun when our plucky little visitor (who cooks better than Jet, we might add) sets videocamera on the sexy 3rd Bebop crewmember - "Aaaah! Suteki na Faye-samaaaa!"

"Without being abused" is the key to everything...and yes, I think a Trigger Happy layout would rule. Maybe not with Tomoyo & "Spike", but there's enough out there. I now own that pic, by the way. *dances* Hee! Hickory daquiri, doc. ^_~

"Got Balls?"
The Brooklyn Mafia was looking for a new man to make weekly collections from all the private businesses that they were protecting. Feeling the heat from the police force, they decided to use a deaf person for this job. Using Mafia reasoning, they figured if he were to get caught, he wouldn't be able to communicate to the police what he was doing.
Well, on his first week, the deaf collector picked up well over $50,000. Foolishly, he got greedy and decided to keep the money. He then stashed it in a safe place.
The Mafia soon realized that their collection money was late. The godfather sent a couple of his toughest hoods after the deaf collector. When the hoods found the deaf collector they asked him where the money was.
The deaf collector couldn't communicate with them, so the hoodlums dragged the guy to a local Brooklyn interpreter.
The Mafia hood said to the interpreter, "Ask him where da money is."
The interpreter signed, "Where's the money?"
The deaf man replied, "I don't know what you're talking about."
The interpreter told the hood, "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."
The hoodlum pulled out a .38 pistol and placed it in the ear of the deaf collector. "Now ask him where da money is."
The interpreter signed, "Where is the money?"
The deaf man signed, "The $50,000 is in Central Park, hidden in the third tree stump on the left from the West 78th Street gate."
The interpreter turned to the hood, "He says he still doesn't know what you're talking about. He also says he doesn't think you have the balls to pull the trigger!"

King Solomon and I were kicking back and we came up with something amusing - Jewish Klingons. King Solomon says Ariel Sharon HAS to be one of them. Any artists feel like going political? ^__^
I just had a call where someone had an item that was supposed to be delivered to the United Atheist Center somewhere in New England. It was apparently misdirected to a little church in the next town. How beautifully ironic. XD
And, somehow, the Cali PUC (Public Utilities Commission) is authorizing YET ANOTHER rate increase for people who go over a certain baseline, as much as 50%+ to their bill. What's going to happen next, electricity rationing? Having a little unit strapped to your house that'll cut your power off when you reach a certain amount for the day/week/month? Again, we must thank rabid environmentalism - back in 98 (shortly before I left) there was a plan to put a dam up along the top of the Mission Valley floodplain. However, when the environmentalists went through, the whole plan was scrapped when they found a spotted owl in the area. Crash goes a massive construction project, major job increase in the area, a way to keep floods from the area, a water supply for Southern California, and a LOT of electricity for the area. Gotta looooove priorities.
Overheard in Cellblock D: "Come back and talk to us when you can hold a hundred dollar bill to your forehead with a tongue".
Gayness may actually be a life choice - oooh, this is gonna go over like a lead balloon. My only commentary - Tab A goes in Slot A. Not Slot B.
Shame. The Chinese have surrendered in Cyber War I. Oh well.
Meril, Jordan reads like I blog. NEVER shutting up. I like Perrin, he's just a comedic tragic character...Mat's cool, I like him, and I'm wondering how much longer he has. This series needs a Folken, dammit!
N&Ms, that's VERY cool. I wanna be Pierre La Fou when I grow up. (but I want intelligence, dammit!) Sultans of Swing! You've never heard that before? That rules!!!
Bird - Omedetou! Congrats on the psych grade. Day pranks are good. Hmm, want some real fun, wait till they're all asleep or locked in their rooms, and get a LOT of wood-glue, epoxy, or superglue - and SEAL EVERY DOOR. If you're careful, it won't even be obvious. I like puns! I'm just no good at them, really...ah well. I wanna get a lot of money and start a bar like Callahan's...that place was cool. All friends who enjoy a long good night with each other, and people who KNOW each other. A good bar. *dreams* ahh...ah well. Back to Genetics, hmm - I would EXPECT that your genetic information would be kept secret, but would it become something that might affect other things? "Hmm, we should not hire this man, he has propensities to X, Y, and Z." Sigh. It could be a very good future... *sees that Weird Al song* I want a Trigger Happy Weird Al layout!
Sam-kun, is okie. Just a stuffed up head. ^^ Plus *koffkoff* lack of sleep. ^_~ Post the Chibi Skanky Yuuto! Leave the title "...mer..." ^_^ It's just too you. Grr. I REALLY need to stop listening to Happy Summer Wedding - that song's as infectious as the plague. But it's so happy and bouncy and danceable...dame yo! must...resist...
I am still alive. Though Ragabash was staring at me funny earlier. Stop that.
Here's a step for equality everywhere - Japan considers an Empress. Apparently, for the last 30 years there's been no boys born into the royal family, and there's only one male heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne. With that lack of family, the Japanese are worried that the line will be severed if the current law for father-son transfers only is not repealed. Koizumi, the new PM over there, has been a long campaigner on this law. In hopeful news, Crown Princess Masako does appear to be pregnant, though it has yet to be confirmed.
Trust in your cereal box no more, kiddies, for a real digital x-ray camera is out there. Boasting a weight of around 6 pounds, and a film-display time of a mere 3 seconds, if this little wonder if truly self-contained and portable (as it seems to be) then this ought to seriously rework an ER - get instant x-rays of injuries, no long waiting for the room, and it's far cheaper to shoot a digital shot than run a patient through The Machine.
*still humming* aa, tousan kaasan (yaa yaa) *shudder* that song's getting to me. Curse you, Sam-kun. :P
And one more story about the US Military, since as part of Rumsfeld's speech today (which I'm gonna have to go find) he indicated that Japan is key to American interests in the region. The Japanese don't seem to like it too much, but at least they're not talking about adding more troops to Japan. There have been no plans yet made to change the number of troops in the area, though I'm sure there will be increased Navy presence and port-of-calls.
Stay tuned, more later.

Okay, I'm back now, more or less. Needed a break, and this was a weird weekend. I hate being sick.
Bill Clinton is in China to go rap with Jiang Zemin (president/premier/politburo chairman) about how Americans see the current troubles with China. Slick Willie apparently decided to have the meeting with him just last week, and somehow got permission from Bush to go visit his bosses over there. Wonder if they're kicking back and telling stories of James Riyadh..
Right now, I am DESPERATELY hoping I get that FIE position with Ragabash - my company puts out new software in September-October - and Windows XP is set to come out October 25, just in time for the Christmas season. Hoo boy, it's gonna be busy in Cellblock D this christmas.
Well, ya dumbass, MAAAAYBE guns aren't toys to play with! This is the kid who shot his teacher last year, because he wanted to scare his teacher by pointing a gun at his head, since said teacher didn't respect him. During Tuesday's testimony, Brazill said had no plans to kill Grunow, his favorite teacher. He described pulling out a handgun on the last day of classes last May 26 when Grunow wouldn't let him talk to two friends in private.
He had returned to the campus after being sent home earlier in the day for getting in a water balloon fight. Pulling out the gun, Brazill said, was a way to get Grunow to concede to his demands.
The young teen said Grunow didn't appear to be "taking him seriously," so he cocked the gun to let him know it was real. He said Grunow told him to "get that out of my face." And here, I believe, we have the nub of the problem - discipline is frowned upon in the home, and in school. With all this child-empowerment crap going on out there, is it any wonder that 13 year old children demand respect from adults? What right does a 13 year old child have where his teachers have to concede to HIS demands? Is the lifestyle this poor kid grew up in one so backwards that the children are always right and there is no respect for adults? This CHILD was making death threats against that teacher as well previously, as well. He had also asked another friend of his for a gun because the teachers sent him home after having a waterballoon fight. Then while at home, he found a handgun and ammunition that his grandfather owned, STOLE IT, and took it back to school. Knowing every single step of the way was illegal.
I'll make another bet with you, too. This kid said that he thought the safety was on after cycling the action and putting a round in the chamber. If you can cycle the slide, dollars to donuts says the safety's off. And he says the gun went off by itself, even though his finger WAS ON THE TRIGGER. Look for an anti-gun push soon that'll go attacking "unsafe guns" that may go off by themselves. Look for case histories on that sort of thing, and look for a few stories of 1 or 2 people who were killed by ADs (accidental discharges) - and if you look closely, the gun was either dropped or else the shooter did not follow Rule 2 - Keep your finger OFF the trigger. Again, I post the Rules Of Gun Safety - 1) Always assume the gun is loaded. 2) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are absolutely ready to shoot. 3) Never let the muzzle point at or move past anything you don't want to kill or destroy (point it to the floor if you have to).
More power blackouts expected in CA with a major heatwave affecting the state, temperatures a little ways NE of San Diego expected to hit 110. Reap what ya sow, guys, but you can go home knowing that you saved a few dozen small cute animals and put the entire statewide grid at risk - if it gets overtaxed (as was mentioned back in March) and the blackouts don't help, there's a risk of pulling the entire statewide power grid offline - and that's the real fear, because they can't just throw a switch to turn it back on then, like they can with the rolling blackouts. Home Depot has to be doing some WICKED business with their portable fans, since they can move a LOT of air around without the power requirements of an a/c, and it's something ya'll should go look at.
And YET ANOTHER teacher/student sex scandal/kidnap & rape hits Vegas. This makes the 4th that I've heard of since the start of the year...no wonder they call this place Sin City.
More on Windows Disgusting - namely, it's going to be THE most hyped Windows product ever, and MS is going to do everything it can to get you to put it on your computer - knowing that it's NOT yet ready. Here's an interesting note in the article - MS is spending twice what they spent for the Windows 95 launch, in the FIRST FOUR MONTHS. And as overhyped as that is...expectations may not be doing so well - they say that Windows XP will surpass its previous best-seller software's first 1 year numbers - and they're giving it over thirteen months to do so. No duh it's going to sell well, you're giving it MORE TIME than your previous products! And, Steve Ballmer (CEO of MS) gets Quote Of The Week - "Windows XP will be the highest-quality Microsoft operating system ever, and Microsoft and our associates are committed to delivering a set of amazing new computing experiences that will set a new paradigm for PC users around the world."
Microsoft has also been seriously smashing Linux users and webservers, seeing as to how so many big serverboxes are run with the open source code. Comments about how open source is dangerous and unsafe and unstable. *snicker* Well, the Mighty M is not to be outdone and fight back with words alone, and their new "Blade" webserver hardware is pretty impressive. 336 CPUs in a rack that held 42 previously, and using 15W of electricity per chip. It's almost fanless too, somehow, and still rings in under 5 grand. Not bad. And this vaunted, much hyped brand now Fight-The-Open-Source machine comes with Windows Powered Web Server...and Red Hat. I LOVE IT!
And XP's vaunted cool CD making ability...doesn't seem to be there. Unless you do things in strange ways to get your CDs to burn, which was found in the article quite by accident. But hey, it's due out in October, so who cares - MS'll just get around to it later. Rather than wait a little while, make a product that WORKS, and then release that - maybe for christmas 2002?
The Register talks about arming space, and doesn't like it. Well, gee, bobo. Would you like the US to sit idly by and let, say, China & Russia put lasersats in orbit? No matter where humans go - it's going to be a battlefield. And because I live here, I want my side to get its stuff up first. I'm all for weapons in space and orbital defense. I'm all for the ability to detect a nuclear weapon launch, and shoot it down before it leaves the country - let the people who launched it deal with the damn thing. One other important thing to mention is that you can't fight a war in space unless you can GET to space - which seriously limits the number of participants in any global conflicts. And limits the ability to fight a war - most of it would be assorted killersats taking out spy satellites of any enemies. Go Rumsfeld.
Bird - OOOH! Subtle and effective, I must say. I like the idea of tying the doors shut - except you'll have constant crying and caterwauling as noone can get out, and you'd get even less sleep then. *CHEERS* a Callahan's fan!!! Mickey Finn was generally cool, I must say. The Cockroach from Outer Space - goes away with Noah and his pony-nuke. *nods* I'd agree that violence IS a combination of genetics and upbringing...when it's two different possibilities, there will be long long arguments as to whether personal responsibility is required. My big worry is that in this land of "It's-Not-My-Fault" (expressed by robbers and murderers suing their victims and WINNING, lawsuits over spilled coffee and other crazy BS, and other things), how much worse could it get if people find something ELSE to blame their problems on? I'll go look up the Viper Militia later - I knew they were familiar, but my life was deep in sh*t in '96. < ^^ > I missed a lot. Babble all you like, it's an interesting topic for discussion, and something that's going to become necessary in the near future. ^_~ Good luck with review.

Catsy, the links on Val's page are just little animated gifs - after the image itself has moved past the mouse, it's still clickable - plus, it loops.
Firefly-chan, I love Sluggy - *L* been a reader since well before christmas. *grins* Riffington was cool, sadly I've not seen his "let me check my notes" line in a while. How did you do on your final? Cars are not bad. :p
Bird-san, may I suggest a stungun? Good for catching some shut-eye, also effective in quieting roommates and small children. Er, gomen. Sometimes I DO get little prophetic feelings like that...not always, but usually I'm right...Go where you choose with your life, and get out in front - we need more people like you & Sakura influencing things and making decisions before the planet goes to shit. What if we could edit out genes for violence? Would planet of passive people be a GOOD thing? It's an interesting concept, to see if behavior is truly genetic or social. And, different sentencing for different genetics...aren't we supposed to be all equal? Would this mean that someone who has a genetic propensity for violence (if it exists, I truly don't know) and REALIZES this can simply blame it on his parents? Ah well, I dunno...babbling on about stuff I know jack about. (like that stops me) Ooh, red corvette! Drive me around when you visit! *L* Destruction good. Hmm, I wonder if that guy with the 37mm Nazi antitank cannon is still around. Eh, it's quiet. They're being nice about it. What're the Viper Militia?

More rolling blackouts in southern California, and the Governor is again pleading to conserve - but people aren't. Usage was up today from yesterday, and that's just going to make it worse. Sure, it's easy to conserve when there's no need - but when people get confronted with high temperatures, they're GOING to put the a/c on. It comes down to simple generating capability - California can spend all the money it wants to buy power - there just isn't enough there to be bought, except by dipping into the nearby states - which could begin a cascade reaction, as the supply of electricity in the neighboring states goes down (since it's sent to CA) the price, obviously...goes up.
YES I put in the application today. And I got your e-mail. *replies* Regarding Aniverse, I'll jump in later tonight. *chuckles* Can't do much directly but I can say that "I have talked to these people and their work was taken without permission" and go that way.
Hmm, now China says it's not possible to fly the EP-3E off Hainan island, but they don't give any reason or comment, except to say "the United States should learn from the incident and change 'its wrong behavior.'" Apparently the Chinese have learned that thieves can sue their victims and get even more...*sighs* I wish we'd just Tomahawk the damn thing and be done with it.
Voting for the dolls seems to be firming up now, Ragabash in the lead, followed by Snape, and the Dragon has beaten the Dragonslayer it seems.

N&Ms, asian moms in general tend to be that way - you'd be afraid of some of the things I've heard.
Ooh. The Chechen rebellion's still going, and they kicked a bit of Red Army butt... Would the Chinese get in on things and attempt a pincer move from the south? All in the name of international cooperation and elimination of "terrorists"?
And the US comes down on the Israelis for refusing to freeze the settlements in Pallie areas, after another major day of fighting. Yes, I'm pro-Israeli in this fight - but I do have to ask why Sharon is so hard-pressed to expand into Pallie areas?

Ragabash, well, from what I know a good majority of Cellblock D and ALL of the Second Floor crew are applying, not to mention some lifers on the floor. Fheh, simple probabilities...if I don't apply, I have a 100% chance of failure, if I do apply it becomes an unknown. I'm always a might-as-well-go-for-it type if I don't go depress myself or something. I need to go shooting, dammit. Being broke sucks. Oh well, tomorrow I may get 1 or 2 handguns, or else I may kick some serious Federale ass for holding up my damn shotgun since December 1999. We'll see. I've noticed late-night crews (Me, the Erzoffilator, Captain Cajun, The Frenchman, and Old Fart in Cellblock D...you & Atilla the Cheerleader back there...Stickboy, Guy, and Randy off to the south all tend to have that same fix-the-damn-thing-once-and-fix-the-damn-thing-right attitude... Wonder if it's that way because the shift we work gives us time to fix crap right and we start doing it that way, or just that everyone who has that kind of attitude and does it right ends up closing? The world will never know, fortunately.
To the San Diego crew...greetings from a state with electricity! Get your asses out here before it falls apart this summer.
Woo, I feel out of it. And really weird, like something bad/not pleasant is going to happen. Dunno what but I've been right before more often than not...
Bird, hee hee. Somewhere on the unmentionable side of my family, I have a cousin who used to do police forensics before the FBI headhunted her...I haven't talked to her in years tho, but from what I heard the (very) last time I talked to that side, she was enjoying it. Good luck and I hope you get a job with a good agency somewhere ^_~ Umm, you'd probably be very arrested for destroying it, but you can RENT and drive around in superexpensive sports cars here in Vegas...Vipers, Prowlers, assorted Ferraris and such...Just a thought. ^_~ Go cruise past the CSI filming if I can ever find out where it is? ^_~ As for DESTROYING them, well...wanna rent a machinegun? ^___^ FBI surveillance, eh. Catsy, the economy was in a slump since Q1 2000 - GREENSPAN pointed that one out. And the Nasdaq's been on a slide since March of 2000, well before Bush was even nominated. He was handed this one by Bill Clinton, because it wouldn't take major effect until AFTER Bill was out. Yeah, sure, that would have risked Gore getting stuck with the economy...but Bill didn't care, he was OUT. If Bush really were a little marionette, he'd not have pulled out of the Kyoto Accord, that was done to keep a lot of industry and power generation open. Remember, Reagan got himself a SH*T economy from the Carter administration, and used a tax cut to really turn things around - admittedly his was more potent and faster than the Bush cut, but it's better than Gore would have given - hell, you wouldn't be DISCUSSING it with Gore around.
I wanna go to ACen...*snif*

In Cincinnatti, a grand jury indictment has been handed down to the police officer for charges of negligent homicide and obstruction, for the killing of a Timothy Thomas in early april. Look for slogans like "Stomp The Roach" coming soon...
And a BIG Israel Report today - first off, a weapon-laden ship bound for the Gaza strip has been intercepted by the IDF and taken into custody. Included in the arms shipment to Palestinian terrorists were SA-7 "Strela" portable antiaircraft missiles, RPGs, antitank mines, and various other antivehicle rockets. Also included in the shipment, but not mentioned, were Katyusha bombardment rockets - old WWII designs that are basically long-range rocket artillery. A full list of the weapons captured is on that page, but the big thing is the Katyushas - with those, the Palestinians could hit Tel Aviv. Here's the interesting part - this was a MAJOR arms shipment coming from Lebanon, was it the only one for the time or are the Palestinians expecting or recieving others? The ragheads have been smuggling some major firepower into the Palestinian areas, and the Palestinians have been getting their people ready with all sorts of assorted attacks against Israeli military targets. Learning the reactions of the IDF, testing and probing...also gaining public opinion from all the pallies the IDF has been "slaughtering"...and now heavy weapons acquisition. Sounds like SOMEONE wants to go wipe out the Jews.
Palestinians shoot at Israeli civilians driving on the road. Israel kicks their ass. And will be back to every time it happens. Nuff said. I'd be careful, though, if they're feeling out deployments and timing replies, be ready for a LIGHTNING fast attack soon when it's serious.

And in a quick check, Imood as well seems to be down, and after checking with another major company with computer servers in Sac'to, they're offline too. Someone shut down some major businesses, hopefully the rotating blackouts will turn them back on soon. In the meantime, is this the start of a LONG dark summer?
And in Cincinatti, they're preparing for some unpleasantness in expectation of a grand jury report into the shooting that sparked last month's riots. The Justice Department has also launched an independent investigation, we'll see what they have to say. Time's ticking on the report, stay tuned to CNN to keep an eye on things, I'll have more later.

Kristina-san, IMDB has a little section on Shiri, or "Swiri" as it's called there. It's rated a 7.7/10 so it can't be too bad. They've also got some plot summaries. I'd say anything that requires a gun index on the DVD is something I really want to see. 8D
Meia-chan, I posted about McCafe last week, check the Ninth Reload, 5.2.2K1 @ 19.05 - it's real. And yes I say you scare me. P.S. the quote is the pot calling the kettle black. :p
Tickle Me Ragabash is in the lead...I ph33r. And it's STILL a 3-way tie between Fuuma, Dilandau, and Snape, with Vicious in a distant 5th place, then Ed, then ANOTHER 3-way tie (Moody, Kanoe, and Sam-kun)...again followed by poor Saitou (hey, he got another vote!).
Ooh! Certificate errors in HOTMAIL. Haven't seen that in a while. XD

Lack of updates...I've been sleeping mostly, then buried in chat with EVERYONE. *L* anyways. Archived last week, added the filks to the list below, and also reminding people to please vote for your favorite Tickle-Me.
Hm, a concept that's now sadly too late for the voting, but I think I'll do it anyways because it's violently wrong. Kill-Me Kotori - with a velcro-attached head. If you remove it, there'll be a little plastic Shinken you can pull out and wave at people with, screaming I AM KAMUI!
Ragabash, got it. Replies sent, and I DO want to live past this week, but apparently *points to votes* noone else does. *L* Umm...sorry?
It looks like 2 eyes to me, Sam...
Dini, tell us the results when you do put the Name in. ^_~
Meg-san...where you been?
Sacchan has gone bye-bye. I can say nothing else.
Katherine, good for you ^_^ And I'll go looking for DuPre. Classical or "Jazz"? Celery Soda concept WRONG!
NnM-chan, it's hard NOT to spoil you. ^_~ You're apparently not the only ones who voted for Kanoue "I am a ho"...2nd place is still hotly contested, tied between Snape and Dilandau with Fuuma 1 vote behind. Worse layouts...I am afraid. THANK GOD there's only one OZ ;p poor Hydro.
This one is quite extremely amusing but I like EVERYTHING in there *birthday approaching* - and I know nothing about Megatokyo yet, though I'm going to learn very quickly.
Meia-chan, I've said it before and I'll say it again. You. Scare. Me.
I see ^_^ Sorry, Bird, I misread that. *L* Tickle Me Eggplant with a knife IS scary, but I think it should be done. I do my best to keep it happy, and I let it make any layout it likes, so I'm already at its whim. And no tributes to an obsession are ever simple. I wish I could do layouts...argh. Oh well, maybe I'll go hit you up some month for one. *LOL* And become The Layout Bum. Good luck on your Japanese final! *summons anime seiyuu cheerleading squad* Gan-Bat-Te! Gan-Bat-Te!
We have GOT to get this guy on Art Bell.
Meril, try Hobbylink Japan and go to the figure section (bottom of the left hand window, choose Figure from the pulldown list) to see all the dolls and resin kits they have. It's direct yen price, too.
