Fae, darn skippy it's BS. And actually, the guy who went nuts was apparently a licensed gun owner. Sure didn't stop HIM from going screwy. Shame there wasn't anyone ELSE who had one who might have dropped him or stopped him after the gun came out. Might have lost 1 or 2, but that's iffy - when challenged, they just give up. Unlike movies, where the evil-icky-terrorist just keeps on shooting. Strange mentality, but it wouldn't be if they WERE sane.
From Friday: I was helping out a friend with work-related things, listening in on him and giving him advice. On one of the calls I was listening to (on a splitter w/ a 2nd headset right next to him), he was talking to this really nice, cool Chinese woman. At one point, she saw a message on the screen, and asked "Hey what is IE?" (Internet Explorer) However, because of the poor woman's accent, it came out (very clearly) as "What is 'Aiyeee'?" Before the poor technician could answer, I blurt out (on mute) "The noise you make when you hit your hammer with a thumb!" The shipper didn't hear me, but Caleb did - and lost it completely. Fortunately he was unable to breathe for the 3 seconds it took to find his own mute button, and we howled. She was a really cool caller, too, which makes me feel a little bad at the joke, but it was just too good to pass up.
Finished Black Heaven. Cool show. Good ending. The Zappa rules.
Meril-san, "Kuroo Riido" is what I hear it as.
Amy-san, Geocities isn't displaying the pics.
Velly nice, Angelica-san ^_^
Del-san, gunblade will ___NOT___ happen, I guarantee you of that. Sephy's sword, I mentioned the one that was machined out of aircraft aluminum barstock - 6 feet long and only 3 pounds - that sucker MOVES.
Kristi-san: *L* you don't want to go? This should be better & more fun - spread out over 4 days, rather than 3. ^_^ Go look for a tall blonde guy walking around, he'll either be cosplaying Allen Schezar, Terry Bogard, or Anavel Gato at any given point - tell him I said howdah. He's the crazy dude who cosplayed Giant Robo at AX99. He's cool, and weird sh*t happens to him. (like getting physically tackled by Akira Kamiya (yes, THAT A.K.) while in said Giant Robo costume)
N&Ms, books are good for you. Reading is good for you. I will do what I can here. ^_~ *debates* there's a nice used bookstore near here. *thinking of raiding it for you* No PSP7 four you! Fallen Angels is funny. Did you ever finish Mote?
Sakura-san, damn. NICE. The girl in the bottom left pic reminds me MUCH of Ruri, with the hair and the eyes. Dare ga sono hitotachi?

There is a growing madness out there... Unidentified woman walks in to sherriff's office and draws a derringer on police, demanding to be shot...and kills herself 45 minutes later, with the last words of "You were supposed to shoot me. Why don't you shoot me?"
Well now this is VERY bizarre - Over in Scotland, taken from Fae's page, is an article about some lunatic in Scotland sending teacher a pack of mints, then claiming they are laced with LSD and, that since she has drugs in the school, she has to get thrown out. Supposedly the letter also referred to the Dunblane massacre, and how nice of The Scotsman to remind us all how evil guns are by reminding us all that a madman walked into a school and killed 16 kids.
Meia-san, S'pore has some really weird ice cream.
It's gotten nuts in the mideast...Israeli helos fired on Force 17 headquarters again, after a long, violent week that saw a suicide bombing, fighter airstrikes against Palestine, mortar attacks, and tank combat. Is this just a short-term escalation, or will it be something bigger? People are talking about trying to break the cycle of violence...however, when the people perpetuating it see not responding to one attack as an open-door to come in and slaughter everyone, there's never going to be an end. The Israelis aren't going to take on all of Palestine in a giant slugging match and wipe the place out - they still have Nazi Germany in memory, and will for quite some time. The Israelis will not eradicate a people, not after it was attempted on them in Europe. The Palestinians, on the other hand, would cheer with joy if the Israelis all died out mysteriously overnight. So would a majority of the other Arab nations.
Katherine2-san, you get some weird searches. We must see pictures of the pink hair! *L* Be as boring as you want. ^_^
Continuing the "Sick Fuck" effect...Man creates female persona online, then falls in love with her, then kills her...and then admits that he himself was the woman. Apparently, just as a joke, he created a female persona to post to the Anandtech forums. Sadly, it got out of hand..."she" was getting so many approaches from all the other guys, our hero (Dennilfloss) decided that HE was going to fall for her. Alas, a few months later the woman died horribly with her daughter in a car accident - when, in fact, she never existed at all. Bizarre little story. DEFINITELY something for the Bird's Nest. Happy reading. Sam-kun, I can imagine what you have to say about it. ^_~ quit drooling, now. Where you off to?
Australia wants Japan to take a higher role in international peacekeeping, including defense of its allies and higher participation in UN operations. Australia IS quite mindful about the not-quite-so-recent past, however, and there's a lot of bad moods in Asia over this one.
Firefly, you have such a fun command of English. :p Cute pics ^_^
New Linux worm out there that with just a touch of work could be extremely destructive. Read up and take precautions.
San Diego man jailed for refusing to give up interenet after defrauding auctioners over 2500 dollars.
Supposedly, claims Forrester Research, The web is doomed. I find that IMMENSELY hard to believe. The executable net that they describe frightens me more. Quick disposable programs that can be downloaded to handhelds & PCs, that's just ASKING for trouble. There's all the well-known security issues (see a previous entry in this post for example), but how also do you pay for things like that? Every time you click to download and run the program, a little note goes in the bill. That'll last about 5 minutes, till someone goes clickhappy and doesn't know what they're doing. And internet appliances in general worry me greatly - there's a new plan in CA, that will allow the power companies to install internet controllers in your air conditioning. They claim that this way the power company can shut off your a/c if it needs to save power without resorting to rolling blackouts.
You want to put people's A/C on the internet. And you trust some @$$hole isn't going to go looking for it and send thousands of them batches of ON/OFF/ON/OFF commands, rapid fire, and burn out the motors? I'm looking for the story on it, I'll see what I can find.
And one last story for the Cali power industry - Gray Davis pledges to do whatever he can to get the state out of the energy crunch. Even seizing privately-owned power plants - he's signed a bill to create a new Power Authority, that could invoke eminent domain and seize power stations. He claims that the power companies are gouging consumers, and has come out as Tough Guy Gray - get this:
Davis said that he met with generators last week and told them: "You know you've been ripping us off, acting in a predatory manner. If you do it this summer, you leave me no choice but to take your plants and sign a windfall profits tax."
The generators' reaction?
"They sat there like sphinxes," Davis said. "They said nothing. But they heard me. They heard me clear."
Who the hell does he think he is? John Wayne's dead. So's Stalin. This moron wants to tax these companies on profits..when they're NINE BILLION DOLLARS IN THE RED. Why are they so deep in debt? Because Gray Davis never lifted a finger to stop the "deregulation" bullshit, or else fix it so it was TRULY deregulated. Now that HE CAUSED THE SITUATION, and let it go for four years, and STILL didn't try to get any power stations built during this time, he's blaming the power companies for trying to do their job. Fucking commie. Let's just see how far this takeover idea goes...
Okay, now that I've happily annoyed a sleepy Meg ^_^ my morning is complete. Hehehe. And yes I'm feeling a little better from last night - was quite out of it. Ne, post beeyatch - how go the layouts? I'll be on around 11:30-12:something tonight, for a little bit if anyone wants to chat. Ja!

*overwhelmed* *sighs* There's too much shit going on on this planet nowadays. Taking a break from blogging till Sunday afternoon. Umm, Bird, e-mail me regarding story ideas and such. ^_^ I'll be on Sunday night if you're around, and I'll be on for a wee late bit Saturday night.
Umm, just a little bitching from something I heard on CNN just a few minutes ago. California is blaming the power companies for the electricity situation and claiming that the power companies are faking the maintenance to black out parts of CA. It's your own fault, you fucking hypocrites.
And...oh good GOD no, Janet Reno wants to rule Florida.
Not yet tomorrow
Really late at night
Well, let's see. Spent the day pretty much kicking back, bored off my tail, and sketching out ideas. Spent most of the day talking with King Solomon, local east-coast bar expert (Captain Cajun called in sick), and got a REAL layout for the bar. ^_^
Bird, you have some awesome birthday parties. Ah, 's okay, I'm usually on in the mornings anyways. Or late at night. Hopefully you'll be on tonight to discuss things. ^_^
I'm going to ask Ragabash to scan in the 3 pics I did sometime this weekend, if possible. In the meantime...
Entering the bar, you're struck first by the light in the building. Coming from a trio of small chandeliers set into the high ceiling, a soft, strong light permeates the bar. The entry itself is a raised square platform, with a ramp down in front of you, and a small stairway to your right. The walls themselves are well-decorated with a wood finish, and a large number of pictures and photographs. At the far end of the building is the actual bar itself, an L-shape that takes up the back wall and part of the right side from your view. A wooden shelf descends from the ceiling over it, the center of which has a large opening that contains a replica nesting eagle. Behind the bar, along the right hand wall, is a miniature walk-in kitchen. A door right next to this, still behind the bar, leads to the back room and food storage. Along the left hand wall, a fireplace resides in the center of the wall. Atop the fireplace is the duplicate Counterclock, made to run backwards with backwards numbers. On either side of the fireplace reside dartboards, looking rather well used. 5 tables make a C-shaped arrangement in the center of the room, and to the right side near the entrance a 6th, larger table sits next to a pool table. Along the wall next to the pool table sits a row of cue sticks and an old jukebox. In front of the wooden bar flap, next to the jukebox, a second door leads down an S-shaped hallway, past the restrooms and a pay phone, to The Bird's office and out another very solid door into a small converted courtyard, and around behind to an alley.
Characterwise, I also want to add in a lawyer, just because they're fun. This is becoming a bit of an upscale place, though it's still low-key and almost a private hangout. Ló probably would like it - maybe something he could work with. Hope you're on tonight...
Seen on TV - an ad for a new telephone that TRANSLATES, supposedly in realtime, supposedly in your own voice. DAMN. That's freaky.
BAHAHAHAHHAHA! A gas station out here, a Conoco station, put up new prices for their fuel. UNLEADED: 1.83 SUPER UNLEADED: ARM PREMIUM: LEG They spray-painted the other prices in red and put them up. *cheers* Hopefully someone will get photos up...
Firefly, you need to change that link to http://www.sleepily.net/kiki ^_~ And...*stares at Ryo-Oh-Ki pic* LAURA DREW THAT!!!
A week after last Friday
Shortly before work
NnM, Gen-chan, either of you hear about this one? Teacher shot at Pacific Lutheran University by a 55 year old man, who was apparently mad at some woman who worked there. He did not know the teacher, just snapped and wanted to go kill someone at random, then went and killed himself. Well, let's see. It's not legal to own a gun within 1000 feet of a school. Which means he could cheerfully take a gun there and not have to worry about the possibility of an Armed Citizen stopping him. Because Armed Citizens follow the law. Unlike this guy.
Suicide bomber kills 6, wounds 100 in Israel after he was refused entrance to a mall by a security guard. The guard was posted there as part of a big security crackdown, if he wasn't there then there could have been a far worse casualty list. Hamas has claimed responsibility, and the terrorist attack was cheered and celebrated at a Hamas rally.
More info on the supposed American spy in China, with some background material. Apparently he was arrested back in February, and now (today) they have announced that they are now going to investigate him as a spy for Taiwan. Interesting system they have over there. Arrest first, wait a while, then investigate.
The fates...see a hand. XD
EP-3E pilots & crew to be honored at a major celebration for their actions in the China crisis. Osborn, the pilot, recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross for accomplishing the not-small feat of keeping that aircraft going without a nose section, and the rest of the crew recieved the Air Medal. China still refuses to allow the plane to be repaired, and claims they have not recieved a request to have it shipped or transported back to us. They probably don't want us seeing just how much they've taken off of the plane since the inspection crew went home.
Testing something new - sorting "new window" links into news, blog, humor, and other pages. Just an experiment.
Katherine, that's some crazy crazy stuff you found. *LOL* Hey - what exactly did you need the Sakura outfits for anyways? Tell tell.
I wanna go to AX, Kristi...*pout* dammit. Friggin work...*sighs* I could always quit...*shakes head* iie iie. We'll all get together for 2002. And I'll just save up lots and lots of cash. *nods* Yeah well hear you on the whole victims-paying-for-things...but fortunately, there may be an outbreak of sanity. So far there've been 32 major lawsuits against gun manufacturers brought by local city & county governments. They claim that gun manufacturers market their products to criminals and that they're unsafe and can kill people and all kinds of bullshit. In every single case that's not still pending (20 down so far) they've been thrown out of court because suing the gun makers for what other people do is intensely stupid, and also opens up the risk of suing the car industry...knifemakers...furnituremakers...etc. Then again, there was also the guy in LA who gave the AR-15s to the cops during the Hollywood Shoot-Out, and what happened to him.
Strange hairstyle, Kristina. ^_^ Agreed on the video-game thing, where you get guys pouring quarters in in some sort of I Am God competition, and won't get off to let someone else play.
You're welcome, Ruby. ^_^ You have no TruePocky there? *lol* oh oh. UnPocky and UnCoke. Not good. Cheer up more!
Tay, then I guess I shall read. And it's a good rant too! *laughs* okay okay, I'll try to write good C&C. ^_^ And I guess I start writing now, too. I seem to be able to keep Bird entertained with the stories of people I know, and we're both Callahan's Crosstime Saloon fans, so we're having some fun and setting up a similar-themed page. *points to the characters and bar descriptions on Spent Casings* Wish me luck, I haven't written anything in years.
The day before tomorrow
Shortly before bed
Bird, I'll be on tomorrow morning from around 8am-11am. Try to wait for me!
And soon - a new layout update. Hee hee. And after that I'll post up a layout from my ko-oni.
*chortle*
Oh holy shit. They DID it. True quantum computer has been built by the DOD, and was released this morning in a press conference. Said to be billions of times faster than standard computers, it's been long dreamed about but now, in whatever form, exists.
If something can be built...it can be built again. And refined. And mass produced. And refined further. All it takes is the first one.
Same day
A few minutes later.
Dork.
Today
Not long after midnight
Big Post warning.
Kicking back watching the end of Terminator. Good movie.
Bird, damn...that sucks. Hopefully you an get the transcripts straightened out, even if you have to go down there and take the classes anyways-signed up or not. What class? CSI is something I should start watching. Grr. He seriously does! He digs his head into the ground, and pushes hard (he likes having the sides of his head rubbed really hard)...sometimes he completely somersaults himself over. It's drop-dead hilarious to see. Okay then ^_^ I asked Ragabash to e-mail you some characters, I'll post them here and then put up more that I had ideas on. ^_^ ERK. *sighs* ah well. I'll wait up for you, even if it's just for a little bit. More charas below.
Me - because I'm writing it. :p Bartender, big guy, happy gun freak. Pretty all-around past, has a little experience in lots of jobs. Writes down stories about what goes on to open a website.
"The" Bird - bar owner, privately wealthy (noone knows from where), lives on the bar's 2nd floor. Cute, short hair, gee who could this be.
Sean Flannery - Irish immigrant, ex?-IRA, long history with Epsy, knows him back before he moved to the US. Tall, curly red hair, broken nose, faint accent. Typical Irishman. (Ragabash & mine)
Epsy Stein - Jewish businessman and owner of Epsy's Gun Store and Kosher Deli. Old friend of Seamus. Short, heavyset bald guy. (Ragabash's name, mixed ideas)
Arthur "Pyro" Lewis, chemistry student, loves explosives and flame. Jokingly referred to as a menace to society. Part of the Merry Pranksters. Tall, skinny, wild hair, does the sk4t3r-d00d look but is a bit of a genius. (mine)
David Cohen - Yeshiva student, hits the bar every Saturday night and happily gets drunk. On nights when he and Epsy are both in the bar (pretty rarely, actually) they get into legendary Yiddish catfights off in one corner. Occasionally Lo will mumble something in his sleep in Yiddish, they stop and stare at him for several seconds, then go launching off into a new conversation spawned by whatever unbelievable revalation he gave them. (Ragabash's)
"Pyro", Misha Valentin and Laura King - the Unholy Trio of the Bird's Nest. Pyro's the chemistry student, Misha's a Russian immigrant, came over in 1991 during the failed coup. Majoring in computer science and puzzles, also a local hacker and programmer. Laura's also a local, she's an engineering student with a good math background. All anime fans. (mine)
Mike McManus - NYPD cop, doesn't drink much but does hang out for the company. Irish last name, but that's it. Not a paddy by a long shot.
Bob Jones - ex marine sgt, black guy, did his 10 years and tells his stories of life in the service. Now works for the Transit Authority. (combo of two friends of mine)
Amy Chang - Business exec somewhere in New York, middle-management person. Born in NY, would never leave. Loves this town. Checks cellphone at the door before entering.
The Bar: Entry is a usual double-door, coat rack to the left. As you go in, in front of you is a common-area, some tables and chairs, with an open spot in the center. Beyond the open spot sits a pool table, with chutes in 5 of the 6 pockets, and a leather basket for the 6th. A fireplace is against the wall behind the open spot, though it's not been used for years. Hung from a place of honor above the fireplace is a large, backwards clock. Alongside the fireplace are a pair of dartboards. To the right is the bar and small kitchen area. Assorted pictures of history adorn the walls, mixtures of reproductions and real photographs. The ceiling is quite high, and has several small but pretty chandeliers that hang down. Taking up the right-side wall is a very large, old French Bar that is blended in with the rest of the decor, though is quite impressive by itself. In the near corner are the restrooms, off almost behind the bar is a small circular staircase to the 2nd floor. No windows look outside, and it's not completely bright in the bar, but the soft light gives a homey sort of feel. Behind the bar, a large mirror reflects the dozens of bottles in front of it. A radio sits behind the bar, and a TV is mounted in the center of the wall. Upstairs is The Bird's actual roost, which none ever go up for. At one end of the wall is a small refrigerator stocked with sandwich meats, and a small microwave. Above the bar itself, a row of shelves hang down from the ceiling, towels are hung from a rod that runs below it. In a large notch, facing the main bar area, there is a replica eagle's nest with a pair of bald eagle reproductions resting there.
I'll do some sketches tomorrow at work, and ask Ragabash to scan & send.
Bon Jovi's BLAZE OF GLORY to the final episodes of Cowboy Bebop. Music video, anyone?
Ten-minute storms SUCK. A good storm has to go an hour or three...
AX will rule! I might be there. MIGHT.
Damn, Pamu, 157 IQ? *worships* someone who's higher than me! :p LOWLY 55 HP?! Fheh. Oh, wait, you meant you personally. :p And I am not a hypocrite - a) I didn't say posting much was a bad thing...and I didn't say I didn't post much. I post TOO DAMN MUCH, as that big mindless rant yesterday evening shows. Umm. Your brother sucks and has been squealing his tires? Your dad's cool. Nuff said. Cookies & Cream ice cream cake?! I want some!
Angelica, I sense murder about to be committed. On several people.
This truly sucks. No chance of sneaking on the internet at work - they've got everything a) password protected, and b) user ID'ed. So NO surfing at all, because it all goes into a report with your name on it.

(Posting this for Icchan, again. - Ragabash)
I love my job. ^_^ The Erzoffinator was dealing with a shipper, when I overhear..."Okay, Fabio, you said that the website is not accepting the address you're typing in?" I tapped on his cubicle, got his attention, and whispered "I can't belive it's not shipping!" Several seconds of dead silence later, poor Erzoffinator spits out "Excuse me sir, I need to check on something real quick, let me put you on hold." and cracks up. ALMOST had him lose it on the phone. ^_^
Captain Cajun wants to set up a pitas site now. This could be lots of fun. "Ask Captain Cajun"...
Not much to go on for today. Pretty quiet. I found out that the Clow Key staff from Ragabash's Sakura doll is a perfect fit for the hands of the (rather techno-angelic looking) GP-03 Master Grade kit. Poor Happosai^2 is already very afraid of it. XD
Overheard in Cellblock D, attributed to Captain Cajun: Do you have TCP/IP for your bunghole?
Yes Ragabash. You are my post beeyatch.
(And apparently your editing and spellcheck beeyatch too.)

Sex sells. So does scandal. And the newspapers aren't interested in objective journalism anymore...just whatever they can get for headlines and to sell more copy. Case in point - British internet magazine sets up a fake exposed-two-timers website as an experiment to see how much publicity it would get as an official site. It sure did work, too, they got immediate coverage in 3 newspapers and a mention on the radio. Nice work, guys. ^_^
Whoopsie. Scottish police accidentally send out address to Russian porn site instead of an anti-drug webpage.
Well, I got one visitor coming in from the CFFML, who apparently liked the plot bunny. If you want it *points downwards* it's posted at 21.30 on 5.15.2K1. I'd link direct, but that's the one other cool that blogger has over pitas (the first one of course being the patience generator).
Ooh. Sam posts to the survey too!
Fae, agreed wholeheartedly. ^_^ Tolerance = TOLERATE. Not embrace and love. In either direction, both me dealing with views I disagree with, or other people disagreeing with me. ^_^ And I'm happy to see that people ONLINE at least are very good about things like that. *cheers for the blog population* And, regarding guns...that's the nub of the problem there - human violence. In Japan, the #1 murder weapon's a kitchen knife. But then again, violence is part of an end result of our competitiveness and predatory natures - it's who we are. That part of humanity, I believe, can be redirected and focussed in other ways. Not just declare it a disease and "ovverwrite" that part of a personality a la the previously mentioned Known Space books...
To keep prices down, German laptops use desktop components. Think about it - how modular and customizable ARE desktops, compared to the little micro-laptops? I'd personally go for it - the ability to upgrade the little bugger as time goes on is a GOOD THING.
Interesting. Sony is partnering with Toshiba to build new 0.10 and 0.07 micron processors. They also partnered on the Emotion engine for the PS2, and now...it gets interesting. The Empire and Intel are pretty much in bed together, it seems to me. Now the Alliance forces (AOL, Compaq, HP) are working on signing deals with huge overseas manufacturers (Sony) that are building advanced, new processors. In 2003 war was beginning. (yes, I HAD to put an AYBABTU quote in there)
Bird...*laughing* let's just hope they're not as bored with the dental work as they are the TV set. Fheh...I just watch the History Channel, or occasionally the news. Sometimes I'll throw on Comedy Channel for grins...but I'm not big on TV. ^^;;; Well, you can tell me (or not tell) about the fivesite in AIM ^_^ *laughing* what exactly was Toga-boy trying to do anyways, just some random angel? *nodding* Faire's just FUN. ^_^ Especially when you get to watch half the management staff you work with get happily drunk and quite silly. (I so wish I had been there to see Worf spend the entire night holding the tree down) OIC ^_^ terriers DO have an attitude 10 times their size. I love my dog, 30 pounds of white & caramel cocker spaniel ^_^ he's a cutie. He somersaults too (NO JOKE!). Okay. ^_^ I'll come up with charas for The Bird's Nest later on at work, I can't build models till later in the evening. I'll see if I can have Ragabash post for me. ^^; See you online tonite, same time same channel?
tayRant is a good one. ^^ And I wish I could C&C, but I can't write worth beans. (nor do I have anything approximating free time) Ah well. Ah, I probably CAN write...we'll know soon with the Tales from the Bird's Nest.
Okay, not much else to post on (sigh) I got up late and have to get off to work. Nite all!
P.S. stop by CNN for the Bush Energy Plan. Will post on it later. *bamfs*

Ragabash, thanks for posting ^^ Geh. I sound like an idiot...*can't wait to archive this one away*
Sam, *ROTFL* I apologize for my fellow male. ^^; But it IS so dumb to be funny. *laughing*
Kowai.
Katherine, where'd you find the pics at? Securityarms, or the HK sites? *points to HK Pro for pics* That's got guns being held - study the proper grips too. ^_~ Are you sure Ragabash isn't Kamui's...father? ^_~
NnM, you post too much. Okay...congrats on the test, and you better scan that cel book! Yay! KJ songs. ^____^ Atropos is a good name. *cheers* well duh, was it any wonder you're NOT Hermione? *sings* My~~~ Mokona! Stand is a music video SCREAMING to be done to Ryoga. And...you can never affect the luck of dice - they simply use your OWN. I can attest to that - other people used my dice, and did fine. I used their dice, and my rolls sucked. Due ONLY TO BAD DICE ROLLING - I am the only roleplaying gamer that either me or anyone I gamed with know...who has managed to have all 3 characters killed in one night. ONLY for bad dice rolls. May I mention...that I started this game with TWO characters? Yes, I wrote up another one just to get back in that night, because I died so quickly (and spectacularly). And that one died too. I don't RP anymore. What'd you do to Hydro, walrus-girl?
Catsy...dude, that sucks much. Especially as obvious as it was for the paying-the-owl-part...if they knew anything about the HP stories, they'd know Owl Post is what it is...and fixed the mistake. And my only problem for ACen was that I didn't get to go. Wah. :p ^_~
Not much I can say, Meg...*shrugs* if you post stuff on the internet, 90% of the people will be cool and appreciate it - but this is a public place...*shrugs* and the assholes are here too. ^^ You have my sympathy...at least they liked your work enough to steal the ideas, which were better than anything anyone else wrote or they could think of.
Kristi, they're going to convict in the tort trial. The precedent is already open because of what happened in Columbine. Gun store sold a firearm to a legal purchaser - the 18 year old girl who bought the guns for Kleibold and Harris. Why did they use her? Because she LEGALLY COULD buy the guns! So, she bought them, all above-the-counter and all legit. The guns get used, and who goes to fucking jail for it? The guy who sold it! Not the girl who bought the guns for someone else (which, by the way, is called straw purchasing and is illegal), not the girl who illegally GAVE them the firearms...the cops prosecute the guy who did a bit of LEGAL business, for not being able to read the mind of the purchaser and stop her from buying the guns. Why? Because HE DEALS IN FIREARMS. It's not going to start a precedent of any stolen thing being used in a crime, and then the original owner being blamed. For some reason, even though many of them own guns and/or are protected by bodyguards with guns...there's a LOT of people in the government who want to get rid of them from law-abiding citizens...why is up to you, but perhaps fear of what the Founding Fathers suggested we do with them. That's my wager - that the guy who owns the firearm has to pay because he didn't keep the gun properly safe or whatever bullshit they want to say. I'd bet 60/40 on that. And who cares whether they circumvent the law with it? It's a _GUN_. Guns are evil. Guns are bad. PEOPLE don't kill people. Guns kill people. When emotionalism rears its ugly head, logic goes out the window. (may I mention the famous 13-kids-per-day-die-of-gun-violence line? HAH!) And yes, people WILL do anything for money. Even to the point of (no joke) buying a box of 2 dozen rare cigars, insuring them for 500 bucks (maximum) against fire damage...then smoking them. Said dude filed claim for insurance, since the cigars were "destroyed in a fire". The insurance company sent him back a subpoena for court, under the accusation of 24 counts of arson... XD
For your own good I'm going to admit I don't get that.
The questionnaire gets around... Hey! I didn't make you do it :p Did you get your manga?
Good luck, Elwen!
Reins *grins* I know nothing about art. And I know so many artists. Hee!
Greg, Card Captor Sakura Diaries was brought up a while back. Look in my older archives for some corkers. Mononoke Hime-chan no Ribbon...eh, that's...ick. But you will be shot for My Favorite Martian Successor Nadesico. I promise. More questionnaire!
If I weren't so violently opposed to Takin' Care Of Business, I'd like that much much more. Hee.

(I'm posting this for Icchan. The reasons why he's not posting it himself can be read below.)
(I disavow all responsibility.)
This sucks. We are forbidden from going to any non-work-related websites - including the news, or Pitas. So I'm slowly going stir crazy, at least till 7. Then I'll start working on model kits, and feel better. Oh well, going back to the discussions of things...
Flipping through the latest Transmet...these guys are on to something. The course of science is always faster than the course of government. As much as that is a condemnation of our system, it's also one of our greatest strengths. Imagine, if you will...a country where government outpaced science, and was able to suppress things. Things that could be dangerous for humanity. Things...that could be dangerous for the government. What level of technology becomes "too much freedom" for a people? What kinds of inventions should be illegal and remain unknown to the general public? Would you want your government telling you what kinds of inventions are legal, and what are not? How would the government utilize its knowledge to control ? In Larry Niven's world of Known Space, there has been an arm of the government dedicated to suppression of "bad technology". It also uses complex brain therapies and machine doctors not unlike the sarcophagus from Stargate to maintain a happy, peaceful humanity. For three hundred years, this quietly, subtly, firmly enforced "Golden Peace" results in a happy human society, quiet lives...and nothing much else. No advancement, except for what goes on behind the Hallowed Halls of the techno-police ARM. No growth. Humanity barely gets to colonizing other planets, and seems to have lost its zeal for life. I wonder, perhaps, if the stories weren't intended to show so much of a wonderful future through things like government controlled medicines and psychological manipulation, to eliminate violence from the populous...but rather, to show that sometimes an idyllic future is a very soft, padded jail cell for humanity. Yes, some technology can be dangerously used, but it can also be a great benefit for mankind. Genetics, for example, can be used for all kinds of things - curing disease, improving humanity, saving lives. And yes, it can also be used for evil purposes as well - genetic slavery, the ubermensch syndrome, or genetic plagues. Flight led to inventions like passenger liners, bombers, Lifeflight helicopters, and ICBMs. Tinkering with farm equipment gave a tractor that could go anywhere, over any terrain and carry heavy bulldozers...someone later put armor and machineguns on them, and sent them across the trenches in France. But do I think government should control it? No. Government is not the be-all, end-all of righteousness - in fact, quite the opposite because of the old adage about power. It can be a useful thing, but like science, it is a TOOL of humanity. Not a god to worship, or a master to slave for.
Blargh. I probably sound very disjointed there, hopefully Ragabash can make some sense out of it. (I'm posting this through Eggplant.) Sigh. Now that I've left everyone wondering just what kind of lunatic whacko I am...on to a little bit of fun. I'll sum up. Science gives knowledge. Knowledge gives understanding. Understanding gives freedom.
Reading from an honest-to-god VINTAGE March 1941 (note the date) copy of Life Magazine...there's an article about aircraft carriers. "Warships Like The 'Enterprise' May Be The Decisive Factor In Naval Combats". One shudders at the prophetic headline, when you go look at the history of the "Big E"...someone wins the Prophet Award.
Ne...it's 7pm. I think I'll drop a story from The Bar (perhaps, "The Bird's Nest"? I like...), something new that you've all not heard.
Van (not this Van, someone else) was at a party in the midwest somewhere, just celebrating a friend's wedding. Fairly big bash, and there's more than a little liquor. While there, some large biker-type dude in all black studded leather sees him, screams "That's the guy who killed my cat!", grabs a kitchen knife, and the chase is on. Van's a big guy, somewhat of an Adonis, and figures he can take the guy on. Several minutes later, Van finally gets the guy disarmed and tackled down in the living room with the help of some friends, and is standing over the guy *who's struggling and crying, he was quite drunk* with the knife. Before they can ask him anything, there's a loud CRASH as the cops kick in the door and come in shouting. Seems someone who wasn't too far in the bag called 911 about "a crazy man with a knife trying to kill this other guy"...
The biker dude is pretty much broken down completely at this point, and in their pity the house owners (and Van) don't press charges. Several days later he sees the biker guy approaching him on the sidewalk...Van switches to the other side, so does the biker. Van looks around, but the biker walks up to him and apologizes, straight up. His cat had died that afternoon, and he had been quite depressed and quite stumblingly drunk at the party. He and Van made up, and went their separate ways.
We now jump five years into the future, at the famous San Diego Comic Convention. Van is chatting it up with an attractive gal, who seems to be interested in him (for whatever reason ^_~). After an hour or so of chatting, right in the middle of a (very packed) comic convention, she remembers and nearly screams..."OH! I know you! You're the guy who killed that guy's cat!"
See you all later tonight. Ne, Bird...come online earlier?
P.S.: From the Files of Popular Mechanics - DARPA is making it official, they're looking to build advanced combat exoskeletons for the military, to be used in close-combat urban locations. So could something like a Hardsuit be next?
And Happosai^2 picked up a new pair of sunglasses while in Japan - they're so dark you could WELD with them. Quite amusing, we were making "MARRY AND PROCREATE" and other They Live jokes ^_^.
Okay. NOW I'm off to go build models.

I think this'll win Understatement of the Year. Louis Freeh admits the FBI made a "serious error" in the current document SNAFU. I do salute Louis Freeh for one thing in here - he had the guts to take this one, and not fluff it off on some poor secretary like Hillary's infamous Whitewater documents. "Regardless of how extraneous these documents are, if they were covered by the discovery agreement, they should have been located and released during discovery," Freeh said. "As director, I have taken responsibility. The buck does stop with me." GOD it's so nice to see a man act like one, it's been pretty rare this past presidency. Not much else in the article besides a lot of "The outcome of the case is unchangeable with this evidence.", so we'll see just what happens. Would be nice of OK could put him on a work gang for the rest of his natural life.
Israel apologizes for killing 5 Pallie cops, and admits it was at the time looking for members of Force 17. Investigations a-coming, but I wouldn't expect much to come from them besides a mistaken identity thing.
John Ashcroft has drawn criticism for devotional meetings before starting work, and having open invitations to whomever would like to attend. Apparently there is concern that it's possible that someone might feel that they may have a lower chance of promotion if they don't attend the meetings - note that he's getting criticized for a possibility of a possibility of a feeling in someone else. Yet, none of the actual people who work for him do - and not everyone attends the meetings, either - none of Ashcroft's senior aides do, and they're not getting transferred. It IS possible to keep your religious convictions and enjoy them without forcing their beliefs on everyone else. Which I might add is a common tactic by other groups - if you don't love me, you must hate me and be ____phobic. This, I might also add, is most of the same congress who lauded Janet Reno's actions and praised her for her work in Waco, Texas.
120-year-old blue jeans going to be auctioned on the History Channel, and are expected to fetch up to $25,000. Look for the auction here when it starts Friday.
Hillary's gonna be pissed. New York legislature petitions Pataki to remove a wax statue of Yassir Arafat from the local Madam Tussauds.
Bundled memory may be cheaper now which may give you more RAM in stock computer boards. Samsung & Hynix are cutting prices on their bulk memory chips, possibly as low as $4 per chip (right now, on the spot-buying market, it's 3.80-3.90 and 4.50 and up for the bulk buys). DAMN. Where exactly can I get 128mb ram chips for four bucks? Anybody?

Intel's new 0.13 micron chip, Prestonia, to hit as much as 2400mhz in 2nd quarter of 2002. Moore's law is still kicking, but how many iterations are left, exactly?
Oooooh, shit. This is gonna seriously reignite some true internet holy wars... Judge sentences sex offender to 18 months supervision and having his name in the S.O. registry for just 2 1/2 years. The offender had acquired over 300 images of child pornography, mostly teenage girls but some of youngre ones, including one of a child just 1 year old. The pedophile admitted that he had found the pictures in a chatroom, but wasn't very interested in them. The kicker? Said unnamed pedophile...was thirteen.
Do I again have to bring up the concept of responsible parenting?

Yukito: "Hello Touya."
Touya: "Ah, Yuki! What's that you have?"
Yukito: "One card Sakura missed. I saved it, I thought you might like."
Touya. *raises eyebrow*
Yukito: "THE WHIPPY!"
Electronic Sky: ...
Electronic Sky: *deadpan* Yes, and Kero-chan keeps a lot of chocolate sauce and whipped cream in the fridge.
I let your poor depraved little minds take "The Whippy" wherever you go, have fun with this little Touya/Yukito bunny.
RUBY HAS RETURNED! Nice layout, CUTE pic. Dare ga?
Now I know I'm affecting certain people when every ICQ convo starts with "You are evil." I love this job. XD
Ragabash gets the B4K4 today. Hee hee. I am SOOOO tormenting Sakura with The Box. ^_^ Yeah, it's over there - I think. I forget, oh well. ^_^ It's in June, won't be too hard to find. *heh* And that's old news - I posted on that a while back.

Just saw a trailer for the Atlantis movie. I might end up having to go see this now.
AOL has to be PISSED about Windows XP - remember the news stories I posted some time back about the AOL/HP/Compaq Anti-XP alliance? It seems to be expanding - AOL & Sony partner up to provide AOL service over PS2 systems. Microsoft will soon be releasing its X-box system soon, which will be a big challenge against the PS2. This new merger, allowing full AOL access through the coming PS2 upgrade block that will provide a hard drive and communications hardware, gives the PS2 a big advantage over the X-box if MS does not include similar MSN capabilities with its product. AOL seems to be in a total war mood with the Blue Arches, even apparently taking the fight to the game console market. And if AOL can rig up a "battle.net" style PS2 global connection, then they could seriously do MS a big downturn. Now it's just up to AOL to determine how far to take this fight - will it go all the way and support a new computer? Could there be another 1980s-style Macintosh/IBM war, this time AOL/MS?
Ragabash, did you get the package sent off again?
The new homepage worm going around out there can still screw up your computers even after you have the patches. Apparently they have to be installed in a very specific order. More details later...
The Register will be going subcription-based! Sign up now while you can...
Want to come to Vegas? Here's a list of current and future conventions in the area. All kinds of neat stuff, including the Antique Arms expo (Ragabash, wanna go? June 7, or a later one in November)...a Tortilla Industry convention (no joke)...
And yeah, the Fed cut ANOTHER half-percent off the interest rate, so the rates will be even lower for loans for businesses - which makes expansion and growth a LOT more likely.
Not a whole lot of other news. Chatting more often. Working on model kits. Sleeping lots. Whee.

Ah well. I e-mailed her, we'll find out hopefully tomorrow what to do.
Poor waitress. Ewww, dentist appointments! No fun, no fun. Sugar overdoses providing psychic abilities, THIS is something I would very enjoy seeing. And don't go there with reoccurring coincidences - I told you I very occasionally get flashes of something...much more often is my dreams of the future. Just little, momentary first person stuff...things like I'll look over and see one specific event in a TV program while holding the remote and having a conversation...then realize WAIT a minute, I dreamed this 2 months ago (or whatever). It's scary, because I can't remember it at all...but then the moment it begins (sequence only lasts 3-5 seconds) there's nothing I can do to change it, even if I try conciously to move my arm somewhere else. Very weird.
Toga-boy, ne? I'm afraid to ask, but what the hell - do tell. *grins* Mountain Dew You weren't kidding about sugar overdose, I think that pretty much takes the cake wholeheartedly.
Ah, that's okay. Didn't need the latin for it anyways. Next sunday's your 21st birthday? *rubs hands together and cackles with glee*
*reads* *nodnodnods* I agree, I still live with my mother because we get along great, and it's good to have roommates that you understand and can get along with - and share the rent with, and TRUST them to pay it. *grins* Yeah, not having the freedom to take off and go can occasionally limit you, but it's nice having parents who're concerned about you - this way, you know you're not completely alone, and always have someone you know will worry about you, just in case you become "Victim Number 6" this year. It's okay ^_^ *laughs* Sooner or later you'll get to come up here alone, and we'll get together and have fun. If you come up with Laura and Clawed, that's cool, we can all hang out or you can ditch them and we'll go hang out together & tell stories. If somehow you got to come up alone, just as good & fun. And I want to come visit you too, to be fair. Flagstaff's not that far.
You're into RenFaire? I think half the people I work with are active Renners. One of them is getting a chainmail armor shirt made for her 2 year old daughter, and she wants me to airbrush Big Bird on it. (I came up with the idea, I figure this ought to scare hell out of the camp) If anyone has the pic, I'd like to see. And...you're not the only one who's expressed a desire in a Tickle Me Frank. Somehow...I have this strange feeling I made a mistake leaving me out of the voting...and, I'm still thinking of names for The Bar. Or, trying to. ^^; I'll be online tonight.
Bird...geez. *L* Sooner or later you're gonna break it. What caused it THIS time? *L*
And Alan gets a nice new background!
Ragabash - Remember my In Nomine chara concept? (I told you Dogma was good! "The bishop blessed his GOLF CLUB?!") Well...he IS Eli! Hehehe.
And after 01:45:00 of work, I'm up to...the Core Block, bazooka, and Core Fighter nose done on the FIRST of the new kits I got. (the 2nd's the same type). I figure 5-6 hours, total.

Oh well. Marijuana illegal, says Supreme Court, even for medical conditions. 8-0 decision (1 abstention due to relations) makes it pretty solid and not likely to attempt to change.
Enforce the laws on the books. Nuff said, that's what we need.
DAAAAMN. BIG story on The Register regarding hacking the Las Vegas phone network - and, it's pretty likely. The phone grid out here IS old, and does have problems. And this is scary - if Mitnick says it can be done in minutes, then it's probably not all that hard to do anytime. VERY interesting read.
Someone screwed up big and let out their tester ID for WinXP and it exploded, getting posted across IRC and instant messages. It's possible that there were tens of thousands of illegal downloads...and the warez sites are starting to dry up. Here we go...
Ragabash, dammit. I was just talking to her, and I had a feeling to go look at your blog...but no, I wait till after she's gone. I e-mailed you the address she gave me, if that's the same one you have...*shrugs* Why didn't you say so earlier today? :P
Smart Guns are NOT the wave of the future - as much as this article says Look How Safe This Is - try THIS to be more likely. Husband at work, wife at home. Wife knows where husband's gun is. Wife hears something downstairs, gets husband's gun, and investigates - gets confronted, raises the gun to defend herself...and it won't shoot because it has her husband's fingerprints. Wife gets assaulted/raped/murdered. Or...Wife owns own gun. However, battery was bad and has died far earlier than expected. To be "safe", the gun will not fire if the security is not working. Again, same scenario, same result. ANYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG WILL. If you make a firearm that will only fire in very specific conditions, that means it's not going to work unless EVERYTHING goes right - and that's never guaranteeable.
Firefly-chan...your sister's even more blonde than you are. *lol* *I'm getting kicked for that, I know it*

Ragabash, you're missing all April archives. And your Vicious as Yue thought is e-vile. *horrible mental images of Sakura Daidouji VIII getting her hands on everyone's favorite swordsman* God, no. Stop that. Now.

Ah, yes, Ed...Katherine, your comment about her reminds me - I swear I got a call from "Ed Wong" on Sunday. I was afraid to ask if there was any name past that...XD Hmmmmm.
Guns. *looks* Katherine, DAMN. That's good. Umm, Faye's gun is good, Glock model 30, .45 compact...though this fine lady looks like she's go for something far more elegant. I'd recommend the Bentley of handguns, an H&K P7M13 in stainless, the ubiquitous Walther PPK...or, if you want a buzzgun, there's the blazing Micro-Uzi.
Ragabash, just talked to Worf. He's doing well, and enjoying the break of unemployment. ^_^

What's scary is...I get some of the references in the book, to certain fans...and they're dead-on. Shorts good. ^_~ Hydro's a GIRL!?! *LMAO* And umm why is Sano on the HYDRO fanclub page?
Hrmm...anyone want to pitch in for Gen-chan's uniform? Even if we don't get 300 bucks, we can help...
Ne, Sam-kun...the UPS weight limit is 150 pounds...I'm SURE you weigh less than that. It can be done. Now get your sleep before the typo onis take over your mind! And maybe the lack of desire to eat ice cream has led to your slim, svelte figure. Can I have some? XD
Ragabash, agreed on the McVeigh thing - the government, at the time, WAS a threat to its own people (and still is, tho far less overtly so). However, blowing up 168 people who might have supported you IS NOT the way to win points for your side. Currently on loan to Kay the TL is my last copy of Soldier of Fortune - they printed a letter McVeigh wrote, plus their reply to it. And there's also a BIG article on a major coverup during the OKC bomb investgation, that dovetails scarily with the release of documents. And Terry Nichol is going to get a retrial as well, now - he's not the martyr type that McVeigh is. So, around the block we go again.

Everyone seems to be back now. And, for the moment, The Counter and Blogger are up, so I'll enjoy this while it lasts.
Talked to Sacchan last night, her brain is nearly melting but she can still (barely) think enough to shriek happily at Gravitation. Everyone send her good luck wishes to get thrugh finals! Ragabash, she said it still hasn't arrived as of Saturday. A little longer yet...
And I'm calling the results of the Chibi Doll voting. Looks like it's Ragabash, then Snape, then Fuuma. Snape'll have to wait till after I see good trailers for the HP movie, I'll base it off a combo of JKR's descriptions and the movie version. If you want to see how the rest of things turned out, click here.
